This liminal pop-up show was born from a need for us (Meow Wolf) to return to our art collective roots. After spending four years working at breakneck speeds to open the massive portals to Omega Mart and Convergence Station, we needed to pour our hearts into something scrappier.
We had so many other worlds we wanted to explore, and seeds of wild ideas that we wanted to germinate – but ultimately didn’t have the time to tend during that intensive production period. Not to mention, during this period we found ourselves struggling against a supernatural entity known as “The Burnout”. These once-bright ideas began to drift from our vision, and soon were forgotten. But even when forgotten, lost ideas don’t disappear from this reality.
Lost ideas go to The Stream.
The Stream is a psychic channel between worlds, a place where lost ideas coalesce and propagate. When we explore the Stream as a group, these misplaced ideas resonate wildly. Flaring up from the collective imagination, they bloom into islands of manifested possibility.
This voyage into The Stream is an inspiring trip into the collaborative subconscious of Meow Wolf artists.
At Meow Wolf, stream travel has become a critical part of our creative process. Meow Wolf artists worked hard together to venture into The Stream, to collaborate deeply, test ideas with wild abandon, and ultimately bring these lost imaginative worlds back into being in our reality via our CAT production facilities.
Many of the production materials were recycled, and many of these wild new worlds were inspired by past creative explorations. Emphasizing experimentation and handmade art over feats of engineering and design, this project provided our artists a simple sandbox to explore The Stream and to recreate the worlds we uncovered.
As we crafted these models we uncovered a startling realization: these worlds thrive off the catalyzing energy that proliferates when we explore the Stream together.
These worlds thrive off of Collective Imagination – just like we do.
So long as we stay curious and trust one another, there's a whole multiverse of wonder out there waiting to be appreciated and understood.
Remember: you too can surf the Stream. You too can benefit from the wonders of Collective Imagination. All you need to do is find your own entrance and someone who wants to take the journey with you.
